Department of Defense to Hold New TSP Registration Season

On Tuesday, November 1, 2016, the Strategic Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) announced that it would be holding a registration season for new transportation service providers.  The SDDC is the branch of the military, under the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) which is responsible for surface transportation and for interfacing with the over-the-road transportation industry in the U.S.

Freight carrier registration has been closed to new entrants for over a year, though many companies have been interested in working directly with the government.  Registration applications will be accepted from January 9, 2017 to February 28, 2017.  Transportation Service Providers (TSPs) will be required to be registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and have valid DOT authority for 3 consecutive years (without a break) prior to the Open Season.  New TSP applicants will also be asked to notify SDDC of their small business status during registration.

TIA members interested in working with the Department of Defense should carefully examine the New Carrier Registration Welcome Packet and also take advantage of the TIA Government Freight Framework, which provides guidance on working with federal government agencies as shippers.  For more information, contact Will Sehestedt at Sehestedt@tianet.org or 703-299-5713, or the SDDC at 618-220-6470.
