National Defense Transportation Association Kicks Off Fall Meeting

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, in St. Louis, MO, TIA staff and members were in attendance as the National Defense Transportation Association held its committee meetings and kicked off its annual joint meeting with United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). As members of NDTA's Surface Transportation Committee, TIA and its members participated in discussion with industry and agency leaders about the challenges facing the Department of Defense and how they will impact carriers and 3PLs. Issues discussed at the committee level included base access, the outlook for the Strategic Deployment and Distribution Command for the upcoming year, and challenges to the industry caused by meeting the shipping demands of DOD in a regulatory environment that is shrinking national carrier capacity.

The remaining sessions of the NDTA Fall Meeting will run Wednesday and Thursday, and will include remarks from senior DOD officials and Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx. Panel discussions will also be held on topics including how DOD can best leverage commercial networks, implement commercial best practices in shipping and operations, and increase its buying power.
