Port Metro Vancouver Truck Drivers on Strike

Port Metro Vancouver truck drivers went on strike Monday in Vancouver, British Columbia over wages and wait times.  Port Metro Vancouver is Canada’s largest port and a gateway for Canada-Asia trade, moving approximately $172 billion in goods annually.  Both unionized and non-unionized truckers are seeking a higher, standard pay rate in order to prevent undercutting in their industry that drives pay rates downwards.  Port truckers currently earn C$15.60 per hour, as opposed to a C$23.00 median hourly wage for the British Columbia trucking industry.
