The FMC, the P3 and Washington D.C.

Earlier this year, Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM formed an operational alliance in an effort to increase efficiency given the declining volume growth and over-capacity the shipping industry is experiencing.

On December 17, the Federal Maritime Commission will host the Chinese and European Union regulatory officials to address vessels sharing agreements, global regulatory issues and the impact of operation agreements on international trade. 

Now known as the P3 Network they intend to operate on three trade lanes: Asia/Europe, Trans-Pacific and Trans-Atlantic. While they are still subject to several regulatory hurdles, they hope to be in operation by the second quarter of 2014.
