AAR Reports Mixed Weekly Rail Traffic

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported mixed weekly rail traffic for the week ending January 19, 2013, with U.S. railroads originating 277,490 carloads, down 3.5 percent compared with the same week last year. Intermodal volume for the week totaled 249,397 trailers and containers, up 13.5 percent compared with the same week last year. 

Canadian railroads reported 77,172 carloads for the week, up 13.1 percent compared with the same week last year, and 53,581 trailers and containers, up 11.5 percent compared with 2012.

Combined North American rail volume for the first three weeks of 2013 on 13 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads totaled 1,058,238 carloads, down 4.8 percent compared with the same point last year, and 854,088 trailers and containers, up 5.9 percent compared with last year.
