This week CSCMP released their Annual State of Logistics Report. It's a very interesting report with great information. One highlight is the fact that logistics costs decreased by 1.5% in 2016. Seeing that fact begs the question: Did your company's logistics costs go down in 2016? Practically speaking, whether you experienced a cost reduction or an increase in the last year, it is important to note that companies that have "best in class" supply chains and transportation operations understand that having great rates is just one part of the transportation budget equation.
World class companies know that they need to constantly assess the effectiveness of their process and practices. And that is why our Rapid Assessment Process has been so effective. It is a great way to evaluate your supply chain and logistics operations. You can sign up to hear more about our Rapid Assessment. We know you’re dealing with tons of objectives, data, technology options, and other factors, and can help you sort through all this to optimize your plans.
In other news, you might have heard that last week the Supreme Court rejected the OOIDA’s legal challenge to the ELD (electronic logging device) mandate. We don’t expect this regulation, which goes into effect December 18, to have an impact on capacity in 2017. However, there could be fewer trucks on the road in 2018 since motor carriers will have to prove to their insurance company that they’re ELD compliant.
One last thing to note is that CSCMP’s Annual Conference will take place in Atlanta from September 24 to 27 and we encourage you to sign up. This is a conference we’re excited to attend every year and it will have tremendous sessions full of unconventional insights.
