Lessons Learned From Walmart and Other Smart Shippers: If You Want Great LTL Rates, Don't Be A Doubting Thomas!

Aug 3, 2017

Recently we had an interesting call from a company that asked us to conduct a benchmark analysis of their LTL rates. While the analysis showed the potential for significant savings, the company is not going to pursue the opportunity at this time. Their reason? Since some of their LTL carriers are canceling their contracts, the company sees this as a sign that their rates may already be as low as possible.

Upon hearing this I couldn't help but think of our experience with Walmart. When our analysis of their LTL rates highlighted the potential for massive savings, there were members of the Walmart team who doubted this could happen. After all, their LTL carriers told them that they already had the lowest possible rates. But Walmart realized millions and millions of dollars in savings because some of their senior executives said "let's give TranzAct a chance to prove that these savings are real." And we did. Big time!

What Walmart and other smart companies understand is the adage "conventional thinking yields conventional results." Instead of being a "Doubting Thomas" and accepting the status quo, these companies are willing to take intelligent business risks that can significantly improve their profitability and supply chain operations. They believe they can get better – and they do.
