Mapping Your Transportation Future

Last week I had the opportunity to speak at Material Handling Institute's (MHI’s) Annual Conference. One of the reasons it was an outstanding conference was because their theme "Accelerating Change" challenged us to think about the future. And when Gough Grubbs, one of the speakers at the conference, challenged us with his word: "There is no excuse for leaders to be intellectually lazy," I knew this was going to be a different conference - and it was!

My friend Dan Gilmore put together a great panel and asked us to address four topics that are part of MHI's Logistics Roadmap. In this week’s video, we highlight this Roadmap and look at what the following areas will look like in the future:

1 - The workforce of the future (Hint: Look at the "Millennial factor")

2 - Technology we will use

3 - How will customer expectations impact your supply chains

4 - How will transportation infrastructure impact your freight costs

MHI has an excellent resource for navigating future issues called the Material Handling & Logistics U.S. Roadmap and they have graciously allowed us to share it with you. This is an outstanding document and if you'd like us to send you a copy for no charge – just send us an email. And for those of you who think you may be too busy to look at this document and consider how the future will impact your business, I encourage you to remember Gough's words and don't be "intellectually lazy." Take the time to consider your future.

And remember: We’re on your team, we’re here to help, and we’re passionate about seeing you be successful.
