Storm Clouds on the Horizon! Don’t Get Blindsided by a Transportation Hurricane!

While I’m usually skeptical when people talk about a “perfect storm” happening, when I read about what the experts said at the recent FTR conference, there may be no better way to describe what’s ahead in the transportation industry.

Right now we’re dealing with the fallout from recent hurricanes. The surge in diesel prices and increases in spot market rates are having immediate impact on freight budgets. But there are other factors on the horizon that could really wallop your freight budget. For example, in 2018 we’re anticipating a few more strains on the industry:

• ELDs will be in full effect in April 2018 – watch this week’s video and the post script starting at 3:04 for more detail about this
• The experts are anticipating a post hurricane bump in GDP growth which will increase demand for trade 
• Compromised infrastructure may result in diversion of freight from rail to truck
