DOT Updates Significant Rulemakings Report

12/18/2013 10 Considerations in Choosing a Freight Audit and Payment Provider

Earlier this month the Department of Transportation (DOT) released their monthly report outlining the projected timeframes for those rulemakings with a “significant” designation. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) currently has 15 significant rulemakings being considered. The rulemakings of interest to the brokerage include:

  • Carrier Safety Fitness Determination (SFD)
    • Projected to be released to the public for comment on May 30, 2014.
  • Electronic Logging Device and Hours of Service Rulemaking
    • Projected to be released to the public for comment on December 23, 2013.
  • URS 2: MAP-21 Enhancements to the Unified Registration System (URS)
    • Projected to be released to the public for comment on August 19, 2014.
  • Prohibition of Coercion
    • Projected to be released to the public for comment on March 26, 2014.
  • Heavy Vehicle Speed Limiters
    • Projected to be released to the public for comment on June 7, 2014.

These dates are extremely fluid and change frequently from month to month.
