Congresswoman Duckworth Visits with TIA Members in Chicago
Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, 8th District, Illinois, visited Matson Logistics on Friday, January 17, 2014, with several other Illinois TIA members to discuss transportation logistics and how she can help us keep the freight moving and keep jobs in Illinois, specifically the 8th district. Members explained their concerns regarding the Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) and the liability being placed on the brokerage industry to second guess FMCSA on whether a carrier is safe or unsafe to be on our nation’s highways. They also discussed the issue of independent contractor versus employee and the burdens that some of the states are placing on small businesses.
Congresswoman Duckworth is an Iraq War Veteran and former Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs. She was one of the first Army woman to fly combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom until her helicopter was hit by an RPG in 2004. Congresswoman Duckworth lost her legs and partial use of her right arm in the explosion and was awarded a Purple Heart for her combat injuries. TIA looks forward to working with Congresswoman Duckworth on many issues going forward.
