CSVA Clarifies New HOS Violations and their Impact on CSA
Recently, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) clarified how the new hours-of-service (HOS) regulations which went into effect on July 1st, would impact a carrier’s Compliance, Safety, and Accountability (CSA) BASIC scores. By way of background, CVSA is the international not-for-profit organization comprised of local, state, provincial, territorial and federal motor carrier safety officials and industry representatives from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
CVSA promulgated through a press release, that the mandatory 30-minute rest break required by the new HOS regulations will have a severity weight of seven, but will not be counted as an out-of-service violation. Conversely, motor carriers that violate the 60/70-hour rule over a non-qualifying restart will be an out-of-service violation.
The remaining provisions of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) new HOS regulations, have been in effect since July 1st, TIA staff would like to hear from you on the impact it is having on your business. Any information that you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated.
