Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Customer/Carrier Advisory
With the government shutdown extending into its second week, the SDDC released a reminder for shipment and receiving Department of Defense Freight during this time period. Commercial carriers and TSP’s ought to consider, and are under certain circumstances required, to consult the Transportation Facility Guide (TFG):
- Contact the shipper and consignee prior to pick up or delivery of DOD Cargo.
- Carriers are required to ensure the shipper and consignee is open and available for shipping and receiving before loading freight.
- TSP’s can find changes to operating hours and activities impacted by the shutdown
- Transportation offices are required to review and update the TFG for closure information prior to tendering cargo. The TFG will heretofore be the only source of notification for operational changes.
Additional information pertinent to this release is as follows:
- If a TSP has accepted general FAK and is unable to deliver given the shutdown, the TSP should place the freight in storage.
- If you are a TSP and have accepted cargo from PSS, DDP and or DOD and are unable to deliver because of the shutdown, please contact the Defense Transportation Tracking.
- System who will coordinate the shipping and receiving activity.
- Once DOD facilities are back up and running after the cessation of the shutdown, TSP’s will be provided with a disposition and instructions.
