New Deadline for Defense Freight Transportation Services Contract
The United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) announced last week that the deadline for bids for the Defense Freight Transportation Service (DFTS) contract has been moved from May 26, 2015 to June 16, 2015. Additional updates early this week have further amended the contract to replace references of “air” with “time-definite service level” in pricing language and documents. Initially, the terms and conditions of the contract solicitation unnecessarily required that “air” transportation must fly on an aircraft, in contract to the commonplace commercial use of the term “air” to refer to a timebased level of service.Though USTRANSCOM has stated that at this time they will not apply a Fuel Rate Adjustment for the time-definite service level, TIA will continue to engage on that issue.
USTRANSCOM is the joint military command which provides logistical and transportation support to the U.S. combatant commands, military services, and defense agencies. The DFTS contract, when awarded and fully implemented, will support Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) shipments. TIA will continue to monitor all updates to the DFTS contract solicitation.
