SmartWay Extended Logo Use to All Partners
Over a year ago, the EPA released updated requirements that logistics companies would be required to have facilitated the movement of at least 75% (miles) of their freight on SmartWay certified carriers in 2012, in order to obtain the logo. There was concern within the industry on this established threshold level. TIA staff and members held numerous conference calls and discussions with SmartWay on this issue to express our concerns.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that it has expanded the SmartWay Partner Logo to all shipper, logistics, truck, rail and multi-modal carrier partners as a reflection of their commitment to the Partnership. Effective October 1, 2013, all Partners in good standing will be qualified to use the logo (To be considered a Partner in good standing, member companies must have an approved Partner Tool on file that was submitted by the due date.) Partners are encouraged to use the SmartWay Partner Logo to promote their participation in SmartWay and their environmental leadership and achievements in freight sustainability. EPA recommends that the Partner Logo be used on promotional materials (e.g. brochures, posters, letterhead, etc.), corporate reports, advertising and company websites.
TIA applauds the EPA for removing this barrier, which will ultimately further solidify the value of the Partnership for the Agency and industry stakeholders.
