URS Changes & Your SCAC

There have been questions raised recently on what would happen to a company’s Standard Carrier Alpha Code or SCAC when the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Unified Registration System (URS) is fully implemented in September 2016. TIA staff has spoken with the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA), the organization that issues and assigns SCAC for all companies, and the NMFTA has already taken the necessary steps in matching all MC numbers with the “newly” assigned USDOT numbers for all companies that have obtained a SCAC. According to the NMFTA, this will be a seamless transition when the URS eliminates all MC numbers from use, and they will work with the FMCSA to ensure that all information is accurate moving forward.
